What is Celiac disease?
Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects approximately 1 in 133 Americans. Symptoms of celiac disease can range from the classic features, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and malnutrition, to latent symptoms such as isolated nutrient deficiencies but no gastrointestinal symptoms. Gluten is a protein found in all forms of wheat (including durum, semolina, and spelt), rye, oats, barley and related grain hybrids such as triticale and kamut.
When people with celiac disease consume gluten, the absorptive villi in the small intestine are damaged, preventing the absorption of many important nutrients. The long-term effect of untreated celiac disease can be life threatening. However, with a completely gluten-free diet, the intestinal lining will heal completely allowing most patients to live a normal, healthy life as long as they remain free of gluten in their diet. Even a small amount of gluten can cause symptoms to reoccur.
Are all the products sold on the Gluten Free Depot gluten free?
Yes. All products sold on the Gluten Free Depot are gluten free and follow strict guidlines as set forth by the World Health Organization. All of the products have ingredients and nutritional information listed with each product. Please read ingredients for any other special dietary needs.
Can any of the UPS shipping methods be selected for the free shipping on orders valued at $75.00 or more?
No, only ground shipping is available for the free shipping offer for orders valued at $75.00 or more.
Can I receive frozen foods with the free shipping offer? No, due to the additional shipping and container costs that frozen foods require, these products are not included in the free shipping offer.
If I order frozen foods, will the order come in the same box and be delivered at the same time as my dry goods portion of my order?
Frozen foods must be shipped in their own separate specialized containers and are not shipped daily. Please review our shipping policy page for more specific information.
Can I place an order to be shipped outside of the United States?
Due to the lengthy and complicated process involved with clearance from the US Customs, we currently do not offer shipping outside of the United States.
Can I register as a member and not be a customer who purchases your products so I may participate in the forum/blog or add a recipe?
Yes, we welcome any recipes, positive comments, and/or suggestions from anyone familiar with gluten intolerance or who is interested in learning more about this condition. No purchase is necessary to register. We require registering to make public comments and to add recipes only to monitor input for vulgarity and leud comments. This site is a family friendly site and these types of input are not allowed.
